ISO 14001:2026. Environmental management system auditor

An environmental management system is only as good as the audits that challenge it.

ISO 14001 certified organizations — over 300,000 of them across more than 170 countries — rely on competent auditors to evaluate whether their environmental management system truly works, whether compliance obligations are being met, and whether the organization is genuinely improving its environmental performance. That is a different skill set from implementing an EMS. It requires objectivity, audit methodology, and the ability to gather evidence, identify nonconformities, and communicate findings in a way that drives real change.

The ISO 14001:2026 EMS Auditor certification is designed for professionals who evaluate environmental management systems — not those who build them. It demonstrates that you have the knowledge to plan and conduct audits in accordance with ISO 14001:2026 and the auditing principles of ISO 19011, and to deliver findings that organizations can act on.

About this certification

The ISO 14001:2026 EMS Auditor certification demonstrates that you have the knowledge to plan, conduct, and report on audits of environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 14001:2026 and the auditing guidelines of ISO 19011.

As a certified EMS Auditor, you can evaluate whether an organization's environmental management system meets the requirements of ISO 14001:2026, whether environmental aspects and impacts have been correctly identified and prioritized, whether the organization has an effective process for meeting relevant compliance obligations , and whether the controls in place are adequate and effective. You can identify nonconformities, assess their significance, and communicate audit findings in a clear, evidence-based manner that supports corrective action and continual improvement.

Auditing an EMS under the 2026 edition of ISO 14001 requires familiarity with the updated requirements around biodiversity, climate change, and life cycle thinking — areas where auditors must probe beyond documentation and evaluate real organizational practice.

To earn this credential, you must pass an online exam covering the requirements of ISO 14001:2026 and the audit principles and methodologies of ISO 19011 — from audit planning and opening meetings through evidence collection, nonconformity identification, and audit reporting. The exam tests your ability to apply audit techniques in realistic organizational scenarios, not just your knowledge of the standard's text.

This certification is issued by RIGCERT, a certification body accredited to ISO/IEC 17021-1, and is recognized by professionals in over 150 countries. Every certificate includes a unique QR code for instant verification by employers, clients, and certification bodies.
